Mobility scooters have been around for many years. They make it easier for those of us who are mobility challenged to live their everyday life. It is very easy to take for granted things like going to the grocery store or to the drug store. These things are not all that easy if you are mobility challenged, but a mobility scooter can restore your independence and freedom. Just like your car or phone there are many different accessories available. These accessories can be broken up into two categories: Generic accessories and mobility scooter specific accessories.

Two people using mobility scooters at a zoo.A mobility scooter is a mobility aid similar to a wheelchair but configured like a motorscooter. It is often referred to as a power-operated vehicle/scooter or electric scooter as well.

A mobility scooter has a seat over two rear wheels, a flat area for the feet, and handlebars in front to turn one or two steerable wheels. The seat may swivel to allow access when the front is blocked by the handlebars. Mobility scooters are usually battery powered. A battery or two is stored on board the scooter and is charged via an onboard or separate battery charger unit from standard electric power. Gasoline-powered scooters are also available, though they are rapidly being replaced by electric models.
